About

BIO: JAMM the Artist (Justin Metoyer Mullon),  is an Illustrator, fine artist and art instructor.  Justin is a lifelong artist, he began drawing before he could read or write and assisted with his first mural at age 7 (working with his Mom and brother). As a child and to this day he has enjoyed narrative rooted in mythology, science fiction, history, adventure, fantasy and folklore. Justin continued to cultivate his love of art throughout childhood; drawing his favorite animals, creatures and characters, many from his own imagination. Justin began his professional art and education practice in 2014 working as a teaching artist and muralist. His work is inspired by his experiences as a youth, the family friends and loved ones who’ve impacted his life, the larger than life characters from comics, animation and street art surrounded by the beautiful vibrant art of the African diaspora in his family home and his Afro Creole Heritage.

As an artist who cultivated his own training, Justin's educational practice prioritizes logical and efficient approaches to creating art. Emphasizing authenticity and the unique lense each of us views life with. JAMM the Artist is passionate about work that cultivates connection, emphasizes our shared humanity and the perspective that make each life unique and immeasurably valuable.

Justin facilitates workshops for people of all ages and skill levels, creates commissioned works and offers artwork at a variety of markets and comic conventions on the west coast. He is interested in community building and collaboration with artists and art lovers alike.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Art is a bridge between our consciousness and the physical world.  Everything human beings build begins in the imagination before it becomes a design and then a work of art itself or even something that seems to be simply functional. We create the medicine we need, and each of us has a gift to share, lessons to learn and purpose here in this world. Art is my way of connecting, processing, learning and expressing.

Art is a core aspect of our humanity. It may be the one thing that distinguishes human beings from other living beings.

Imagination, creativity, forethought.

Art is our memory bank. It is how we educate each generation; how we remember intergenerational lessons; how we envision and build our community; Lets imagine and create a world we all want to live in, lets create art together.
